  New boat
Posted by cat - 590 Reads

David and Libby are becoming shipping magnates. They've just bought a share in a new boat. This time it's a narrow boat moored on the Grand Union Canal. As it had already been launched the owners had an "anointing" ceremony instead. Pictures in the Emsworth Habs album.

So, David. Tell us more. How many does it sleep? How many owners? Do you know them? How often do you get to use it? Can you use it year round? Is the Grand Union Canal the canal that Dad fell in during one of our holidays? Do you work your own locks? Do you still have the Drascombe Longboat?

What a lot of questions! Aylestone sleeps 6 in 3 double beds - 1 pair in a 5ft bed and the other 2 beds are fold down 4ft wide. There are 12 owners, but only 10 so far (we have bought a twelth share). We get 3 weeks guaranteed a year, at least 2 of which are high season, plus extra weeks if wanted (you will have calculated that 12x3=36 weeks, so there are 16 spare - someone has even booked for Christmas!). If you want to know more about the scheme, go to www.ownerships.co.uk where you can also have a virtual tour of the interior - click New Generation Boats for Humans (Apperley is the same layout), or www.milburnboats.co.uk - click on Links and Current Projects to see Aylestone being fitted out. I can't remember where Dad fell in the canal! Work own locks on canals; Thames gates are keeper operated. Yes, we still have the Drascombet and had a great sail yesterday, which included a visit to the Royal Oak, Langstone on the high tide at midday (Warblington Habs will remember this hostelry next to a mill in Langs
