Here is Alfred's final letter to his mother.
I feel sad that this is all we'll know about his
holiday. I wish we could see the photographs
he took, and I wish we could read the letters his
mother wrote to him.
So many unanswered questions . . .

Agree Catherine - a pity neither his mother's replies nor any pictures remain. By the way, the map attached to the "his holiday" link is not the route that Alfred and Joe followed. It's one I found on the internet which happens to show some of the places mentioned in the letters. One day somebody with lots of time might like to draw their route using information in the letters. It would be interesting to see where they went. Sadly the letters peter out mid-hol. Perhaps Alfred got bored with writing to his mother or, as Nick mentioned, maybe the Schnapps got to him!!
