Here is the second letter from Alfred, written while on a walking holiday in Germany with his Uncle Joe in the summer of 1898. The picture shows the type of cameras they might have used.

The letter is rather a dry account with lots of talk about the weather, but Nick and Clare might find the place names familiar as they’ve travelled a lot in Germany. The business of moving personal luggage on holiday must have been very tiresome in pre-car days!
