Excitement in the Habershon family! Paul's Countdown recording has taken place. The burning question is, of course, HOW MANY DIFFERENT SHIRTS DID HE WEAR?
He's not telling. We have to wait until February 4th when the show will be airing. Of course, if he won, we'll also have to watch on February 5th, 6th? ... 7th? How are Habershons going to make it through the next two months not knowing?
Here's what Paul has revealed to the Habershons.com webmistress. The photograph is of him with his (first?) opponent: A Miss Ariane Sherine, 22 years old, stand-up comedienne and jazz singer, and a 1st class degree in music from Goldsmith's College (I hate her already.) In the round before, she beat a 14-year-old boy whom Paul was dreading playing. He thinks "...the producer was probably trying to engineer a teacher v pupil contest to make 'good television', though I am sure he would not admit it. Richard Whiteley makes oblique reference to that scenario when I appear at the end of the 3rd Feb. programme as the following day's challenger."
Paul writes that the number games were embarrassing. He feels he shouldn't have written down the method every time. He has described the prizes to me, but I'm not sure I should mention them yet as it may give away how he did.
Perhaps we should all descend on Curlew Crescent in February to savour this historic Habershon moment? Flights to England are very cheap at that time of year.
